The Beginning of a New Adventure

Well I am about to start packing for my trip to New York City. Finally this day has come. I have been waiting for years. I haven't been this excited for a trip in a very long time. Probably since my trip to Europe nine years ago....I have been reminiscing on that adventure a lot lately. It's raining out today and the weather when in its current state often reminds me of when I was in Europe and makes me long to go back someday soon. That will be my next vacation.....Back on topic: Make up-check, dresses-check, book-check, jeans-check, sandals-check, umbrella--still need. A trip to Target may be in order. Of course I wait until the last minute to get everything done, but usually that lights a fire under my ass and I work more efficiently and effectively that way. 24 hours from now I will be in unfamiliar territory exploring the sites and sounds of a city I have only dreamed of, while sipping on a very familiar Starbucks coffee, I presume...Wish me luck! I will share my stories when I get back! I have decided not to bring my laptop....too much hassle. Also, considering I just got a brand new HP laptop from a relative I am not going to risk bringing it and disaster striking so early on in the new computer's life. Farewell friends!

Time for a New

I saw this photo just surfing the internet today while at work. I have to admit it broke my heart. I had to post it because for some reason I cannot look away from the picture; although it makes me want to sob. The sadness, fear, and uncertainty expressed in this picture is terrifying. All the sad emotion which I have been trying to surpress has now surfaced, ruining me once more. This makes me miss my puppy who passed away last year. It may be time....

New York Experience

So I have about two weeks (15 days technically) until I am boarding my flight to New York and it seems that I cannot think about anything else. This is beyond the normal realm of excitement I think. Maybe I just really need a vacation. Tired of working the same old retail job I have worked for the past five years, time for a change I think. Maybe I just won't come back from New York...I could see that easily happening. I still am not any farther on planning out my trip. I have the list, which is located several blogs below for your reading pleasure, but it still seems that I will only be viewing NYC through the eyes of a tourist. I want to really experience what that city ahs to offer. So often I plan a trip where I will be partaking in all of these exciting activities or hitting up this cool local bar or dining in a restaurant that would equate to a cultural experience, yet it falls through. When I pack my bags the last night before heading home I realize that I have not done anything off the beaten path that every other tourist travels down. Maybe it's that I don't know how to experience a city/state/country how the local does because I will never know what they know. I do not know many people who have traveled to NY and when I ask the ones that I know who have, I get the same old same old. I do not want to take a vacation to New York City, I want to experience New York City..The question is, I'm just not sure how to do that.

PrAcTiCaL MaGiC

I just finished reading the book Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman. I've never seen the movie with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, what intrigued me to read the book was honestly the cute book cover with its knee high boot with wild flowers growing out of it. I must warn however to those of you who have watched the movie, it is nothing like the film, or so I have read. A majority of the plot is different. I would definitely say this book is a must read. It's decently short only a little over 200 pages and it is a very fast read. The entire reading is very light and whimsical a very happy read although some of the issues in the book are very heavy. It tells the story of two sisters growing up together and all the trials and tribulations they deal with along with the happy moments as well. Although the book is entitled Practical Magic, thus implying that the girls in the story are witches or practice some for of black magic, it is not really the main subject of the story. They are not typical witches, or witches at all for that matter. The magic in the story is more of the magic of love and the magic of family. Both practical and mystical at the same time. I will not divulge too much of the story in order to avoid spoilers, (those are never fun--Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix was ruined for me by a insignificant MSN article) but I do implore that you all read this book. It is so light yet deep, happy yet sad, and practical yet magical. Happy reading!

New Moon Promotional Still OW OW

Look at this new promotional poster released by Summit Entertainment for the New Moon movie coming to theaters in November. How intense are Edward's (Robert Pattinson) eyes? I think Chris Weitz was a perfect choice for director and it looks like with all the extra money Summit has been throwing into this film, come November we're going to be watching a VERY good movie!

I have been waiting forever....

Tim Burton. Alice in Wonderland. Two things that give my life great pleasure are finally joining together. This is only news but still I had to post on it because I can hardly contain my excitement. The teaser trailer was amazing of course and the pictures are breathtakingly beautiful and creepy at the same time. Biased of course,but I feel that anything Tim Burton puts his hands on is borderline perfection so this movie is bound to be thrilling. With Johnny Depp playing the Mad Hatter the movie should be one hilarious journey. Finally somebody is making a version that is going to be closer to the stories, which are fabulous reads by the way if you did not know. The lyrical content of every sentence is outstanding and the entire book as a very whimsical yet dark feel to it. Not something that is captured very often in books. I found myself not able to put the book down, yet had to continuously stop to tell those around me to listen to the incredible sentences I was reading. Here are some of my favorite lines from the book Alice's adventures In wonderland and Through The Looking Glass And What She Found There by Lewis Carroll. I highly suggest reading it if you have not.

So I've been wanting to do this for a long time and I think I'm finally getting the guts to go about and start. I have decided to start making my own clothing. I am just really disappointed with what most stores offer currently. The fashion is so blah and everything is the same. If I had the money to constantly buy couture clothing and high end fashion apparel then I wouldn't be complaining but like most of you funds are low... I have heard that making your own clothing can be time consuming and a little expensive but also very rewarding. I have designed clothes for several years, I have sketchbooks filled with designs that I wish would spring to life. I know it will be difficult at first to sew, since I only have the experience from my 6th grade FACS class which was over twelve years ago might I add. It can't be that hard right? I just want the personal thrill of wearing a unique design that nobody else has. For somebody interested in fashion that is probably the best feeling in the world. I will document my endeavor on my blog all the trials and tribulations in making my dream clothing line for myself come to life. I'm just curious as to wear I will be able to find quality fabric in Minneapolis and whether or not I should buy a new sewing machine or just head to ebay and get an old one? Anyone ever sewn their own clothes before? Can it be THAT difficult?
